“What shall I do?
I been lookin at you
thinkin maybe I might take a chance …”
Hi there,
If you’re a boy (or were once upon a time) and if you felt weak at the knees in that do-or-die moment when you first asked a girl to dance with you, then “I Like You” is the song that confesses what you never dared confess.
If on the other hand you’re a girl and if you thought that boys were naturally strong and confident, then “I Like You” will pull back the curtain to reveal a little piece of the secret life of boys and to give you a glimpse of just how scary you girls can really be.
So to the confession … this song is pure autobiography.
As a boy growing up I was utterly bedazzled by girls, but was paralytically shy. Not only did I never ask a girl to dance, I never even dared go to a dance. After all, even if I sat mute in a corner to avoid contact, the unthinkable might still have happened – a girl might have come over and asked me to dance, which, as every shy boy knows, would have meant instant death.
Many years later, when the terror had subsided (a little) I decided to make up for that missed rite of passage and I wrote this little song, “I Like You”.
My sincere thanks to the multi-talented Jeff Carrol for putting together the sweet musical arrangement on this recording and for conducting our little orchestra.
Just go to the I Like You Song Page to watch the clip and listen to the song. You’ll also be able to download the audio as an MP3, read the lyrics and get the background story.
Enjoy … Michael
